A Life With Wool

What a Beautiful Morning 🌿

Oh, what a beautiful mornin’
Oh, what a beautiful day
I got a beautiful feelin’
Everything’s goin’ my way

Rodgers and Hammerstein – Oklahoma

It’s a lovely morning here in the valley of the sun and I am so excited that my Lemonbalm has had a wonderful growth spurt! I use this fragrant herb in many of my tea blends as it has so many wonderful properties and can’t wait to start cutting to dry.

Lemon balm (Melissa officinalis), a member of the mint family, is considered a calming herb. It was used as far back as the Middle Ages to reduce stress and anxiety, promote sleep, improve appetite, and ease pain and discomfort from indigestion (including gas and bloating, as well as colic).Mount Sinai

I recently made a lovely herbal tea blend after listening to Dr. Mary Dove on the Herbs With Rosalee podcast that features this wonderful herb and I must say the tea is refreshing and quite soothing.

For my blend, I added peppermint for a touch of sweetness. I think this blend would also make a great ice tea, and perfect to sip during those hot Arizona summers.

If you’re interested in making this tea, be sure to visit Rosalee’s website to download the recipe.

What are you growing in your garden or thinking about growing?

  3. “There’s a bright golden haze on the meadow” – I used to have every song in Oklahoma memorized when I was just a girl! My friend’s older sister took us to see it in a theater in the late 1950s, and we both loved every minute of it.

I know it’s a waste of good herbs, but when I grow them it’s so I can crush a leaf and smell it – lol! Lemon balm used to be one of my favorites, haven’t grown it for years.

    1. Oklahoma is a long time favorite of mine, good memories growing up watching it with my mom. I can only imagine what it must of been like to see it at the movies.

Not a waste at all… they are truly therapeutic in many ways ☺️

  5. My mint has already started to come back, as has my lavender. I’m hoping to add a second raised planter this year so I can grow more vegetables; last year I crowded too many things in the one I have and only the tomatoes were really successful.

    1. Mint is such a hardy plant, and lavender is too. I have two lavender plants that have been blooming quite a bit of late. That’s so awesome you are doing that, and I may be doing tomatoes too.

  6. and now thanks to you I have a new song in my head 🙂 I’ve been singing church songs all morning long so it’s a nice change. Lovely plants – we set up our patio yesterday now we just need the weather to match it.

  8. Your tea blend sounds very refreshing. The small herb garden is my favorite bed. The chives, thyme and oregano are green. The lavender is waiting for warmer weather. I’m dreaming about fresh basil and tomatoes from the garden.

  9. The tea sounds delish! I noticed yesterday that our lemon balm is back in force – and the mint is coming along, of course. They both kind of take over the driveway bed at the side of the house…but I like having them both. I usually have basil in a large pot and also rosemary, but it is too early for either of those just yet.

    1. It was very delicious and one I will make often. Mint always takes over but it is such a lovely smelling herb. Not much longer and you will be able to set out your pots of rosemary and basil ☺️
