A Life With Wool

An online journal of my creative life

Hello April

I truly cannot believe it’s already April, I mean wasn’t it just March !!! April is starting out quite lovely for me as today we are enjoying much needed rain here in Phoenix, and personally I’m loving the overcast dreary rainy day. The only downside to these kinds of days, I have to work when I would rather be curled up with a good book and a delicious cup of tea.

I’m starting the month off with a decision regarding one of my knitting projects, the Harvest Cardigan by Tin Can Knits. While I love the yarn I have been using, which is Knit Picks Wool of the Andes Worsted, I simply have not enjoyed the process of knitting the pattern. So this morning, what had been knitted became a lovely hand wound ball of yarn. The yarn itself I really love and definitely will use it for something else, maybe a vest or pullover, not sure quite yet. Also regarding the Tin Can Knits App, not for me at all. I like that it calculates everything for you for the size you choose, but you cannot printout the calculated pattern or even safe it as a PDF, which is a huge negative for me. Hopefully they will change this feature and make it more user friendly too.

Meantime I will be working on my Mimungo pullover and my scrappy socks. These two projects definitely will enough for now because I have other things I want to pursue over the next few months, which doesn’t involve knitting and I will share more about that soon.

Have a wonderful day everyone and happy April !

  2. I’m glad to hear your thoughts on the Tin Can knit app. I just loaded it and haven’t really started using it.
I agree with curling up on a dreary day!

    1. Hi Monica! Give it a go before making a decision on the app. For me personally it just wasn’t to my liking. Yes, dreary days are gtreat for reading, and baking too ☺️

  3. I did quite a bit of rethinking knitting projects last week. I suddenly had about 6 projects going and it was overwhelming. I set everything out on the floor and fave it a good, hard think. In the end, I unraveled three projects and then quickly finished one so now I am feeling a bit more balance.

    1. Sometimes doing that really does help, doesn’t it. That’s kind of how I feel too.. more balanced.

  4. Some projects are just not meant to be. I am sure you will eventually find a good use for the yarn. I agree about the rainy days. It was misty and cool here today. After walking this afternoon, I came home, made a cup of tea, and did a little hand stitching on a quilt project. I hope you had a nice Easter.

    1. Oh that will be fun and bringing along knitting projects is always a a great idea. I always take way too much because I never can decide what to take. Thank you … will share soon and it’s just returning to something I enjoy now and then.

  6. I’m sorry the pattern wasn’t working out, but you’re right that it’s better to rip and reuse the yarn for something that really appeals. I do hope they work out the kinks in the app because if it could work a little better, it’d be really useful. I have found it to be helpful when buying yarn because I can enter all the details on the size and fit I want and get the yarn specifications. But I wish it would keep my place in the pattern and I didn’t have to start from scratch every time I opened it up!

    1. It’s quite ok as it’s really not the pattern, it’s more me and what I want to make. I so agree about the app and hope they continue to make changes as it could be really great.

  9. Yes, sometimes that ‘beautiful idea’ of a project loses its attraction and I just let it go also! Time is too precious! We have a rainy day today, too, which just means I play indoors instead of out!

  10. well now you just get to knit that yarn all over again! Nothing wrong with that. It is super rainy and dreary (on our second full day…). I am getting ready for tai chi class 🙂

    1. Exactly and it will be perfect for a different project somewhere in the future. Tai Chi sounds like a great class to take.
