A Life With Wool

An online journal of my creative life

Wednesday WIPs

I cannot believe it’s already Wednesday and that yesterday was the first day of spring! Our weather is still quite lovely here in the Phoenix area and I am hopeful it will continue through May, fingers crossed.

“Spring is far more than just a changing of seasons; it’s a rebirth of the spirit.” —Toni Sorenson

So today I am happy to share with you all that I have 1” to go on my Mimungo pullover and then I will be starting the bottom band, and then of course finishing the sleeves. I am finally nearing the completion of this sweater people!! Right now this is the only WIP that I am focusing on, so I will not bore you all with the other two that I have shared often but really have not worked on too much because honestly, I want this sweater off my needles.

Once this sweater is finished (may happen before that) I will be casting on Goldwyn Folly by Thea Colman. This is a cropped vest that I plan to pair with a few summer dresses I recently bought to wear around the house. During the summer the air conditioner blows down me and I get cold, needless to say sweaters are often worn to keep me warm and I decided it was time to make something different to wear during the summer. I think this vest will be just the ticket and will be a fun layering piece to wear year around too.

So let’s talk about books ….

📚 Outlander by Diana Gabaldon – I have made it through the first chapter only, which is not typical for my reading habits but I think it’s largely due to the fact that it’s a book I am re-reading.

📚A Curious Beginning by Deanna Raybourn – I started this book last night and I already love it. I read the Lady Grey series by this author years ago and really enjoyed them and think I will really enjoy reading the Veronica Speedwell series too.

“I have often regretted my speech, never my silence.”
― Deanna Raybourn, A Curious Beginning

🎧 A Fatal Grace by Louise Penny – this audiobook has been keeping me copy during the day as I work. I really have enjoyed listening to it and do not have too much left to go before I am finished. I really enjoy the voice of the narrator for this audiobook and hope he is the same in all of them.

What are you working and reading or listening too?

  3. I love the sweater! Also, I am reading a Barbara Kingsolver book called The Lacuna at the moment. It is also my audio book. I switch back and forth. It is pretty good, but I am finding the memoir format hard to follow occasionally. It is more challenging to care about the characters, I think.

    1. Thank you so much! I have never read any of Barbara Kingsolvers books but understand folks seem to like her writing. I like how you read and listen to audio of the same book too. I might try that.

  4. I love that sweater and thinking I might need to knit a sweater with cropped sleeves. I think I need to cast on another sweater to climb out of my knitting funk so stay tuned.

  5. The cropped vest will be the perfect layering piece for those air conditioned spaces. It should knit up rather quickly too. Are you planning to use wool, or cotton/linen?

    1. I think so too Regina Mary and plan to use wool for my first and cotton for a second one.

I’m trying to finish up my Hitchhiker and reading The Berry Pickers, and I have to decide which of two ARCs I’m going to start next on Kindle.
